vazquez (in Gentilly?)

visiting home, here in N.O. and thought i would share a neighborhood place that i enjoyed.

Vazquez Seafood Restaurant. 5328 Franklin Ave 504.282.6931 10am-9pm except Sun 11-8

clean, pleasant and lots of the food that New Orleans is known for. not expecting much, i went for the pork chops smothered in gravy with rice and boiled cabbage. it was OK with lots of chunks of ham in the cabbage. great value at $5. i was told to stop licking the plate, so i either been really missing this sort of cooking or it was pretty good.

the surprize to me was the stuffed catfish my brother got. a couple of catfish fillets making a lightly cornmeal fried package for crab stuffing which was an island in a bowl of crawfish etouffe. Excellent at $11. had tried to order the shrimp/crab stuffed bell peppers. at 8pm on a Thursday they were out. maybe next time.

the have the standard range of po-boys and seafood platters. but after the stuffed catfish i think the specials (except the jambalaya which i tried as a side) merit further exploration and enjoyment.

happy holidays ya'll.
