The Vanilla Pod has been labelled, "Marlow's newest restaurant." CORRECTION. It should be labelled, "Marlow's ONLY restaurant." It is a fabulous experience for all of us who love their food.
The food itself is a British classical menu with clever french influences. We had lunch there on Friday and it was fabulous. What was an old curry house is now an elegant little restaurant that seats 32 people. The owner and Chef (Michael McDonald) is onto a real winner. Michelin Stars on the way i am sure.
For starters, I had 2 little frogs legs on a bed of garlic infused risotto which was heavenly. My colleage had an artichoke dish. For the main course, we both opted for the lamb (pink) on a bed of puy lentils with a delightful maidera jus. Just wonderful.
The service was top notch. Very attentive and very friendly. The wine list although small is great value for money and provides the diner with an excellent range of fine wines. I also have to mention the lovely warm bread (similar to the fat duck!) throughout the meal.
The 2 course Lunch was £12.50 per person. For cooking of this quality, that is AMAZING value for money. If you went up the road to the Hand and Flowers pub, you would pay £15 for 2 courses for food that has just come out of the freezer!
Incidentally, the Dinner Menu at The Vanilla Pod is £24.50 per head for 3 courses which has a wider choice than the lunch menu.
I will definitely be back. I would book a table soon before everyone finds out about this place. If you do book a table, you're in for a real treat. It is well worth the 40 minute journey out of Central London.
