We are heading to London in late June for the first time and are looking for recommendations on lunches and dinners. We will be there for a week and our hotel, Park Lane Sherlock Holmes is in the Marylebone area.
We like farm to table, seasonal cooking. I am a vegetarian and my husband loves meat. Our 2 children are accompanying us and are used to travel and dining in higher end restaurants. They have some food allergies (nuts, sesame, food colouring). Will this be an issue? We haven't found it to be one in Canada, the US, Italy, or France (with the exception of a few places) but did have trouble in Spain.
So far our only reservation is at Cora Pearl for dinner. We read a good NYT review on it.
We are looking for:
1. a couple of quaint old english pubs for lunch or dinner that have good fresh food and fish and chips for my husband
2. one high end Indian food recommendation for dinner...there are so many Indian restaurants to choose from and we are confused as to what to pick. In Vancouver we have only one fine dining Indian restaurant called Vij's but we have never felt it was very good. I liked the sound of Amaya but when I went to make a reservation, the website indicated kids can only eat at 6/630 seatings and we will probably be eating later at 9 due to jet lag. Will this be an issue at most higher end restaurants in London?
3. Lunches in and around: the Newburgh Quarter, Close to the British Museum or King's Cross Station, Tower Bridge/Tower of London, Knightsbridge/Beauchamp Place.
4. A few dinners in and around Marylebone
5. one High tea. From research so far, The Ritz, Savoy, Wolsely, Goring and Langham look the best to me but the latter 3 stand out as having better food? Does anyone know if they will take food allergies into consideration? Will the children be welcome?
6. 1 high end dinner in a fun part of town where we could go to a nice bar after for a drink without our kids.
