Vancouver Report - The Mill

Tha Groovin' Gourmet | Sep 28, 2005 04:39 PM

As our B&B's internet connection was flaky we sought out a wifi spot close to where we were staying. Ended up heading for The Mill right down on the waterfront only a few blocks' walk from the corner of Nelson and Broughton.

Very friendly staff...we arrived a few moments before they were officially open, but they said we could sit outside and log on.

A few moments later we had coffee in front of us and spent time online waiting for the restaurant to get up to speed.

We ended up ordering a Smoked Salmon pizza that was very impressive, especially the crust. It seems to us that finding really good pizza crust is getting more difficult all the time.

Fortunately The Mill cranks out one of the very best I have ever tasted. Relatively thin, cracker-style, this puppy was properly cooked all the way through, yielding a nice, yeasty crunch with every bite. More than sturdy enough to hold our pizza's more delicate toppings, and I'm sure it would hold up to a more traditional array of sauce, meats, cheese and veggies.

Ours was slathered with a base of créme fraiche, covered with a generous amount of really good lox. Strewn with capers and bits of red onion, this pie was made even more flavorful with a squeeze of lemon juice.

All in all a cool hang, especially if you need to get online (service is provided by FatPort).
