I'm going to be visiting your fair city for the first time in about a week and was wondering whether some of you might be willing to help orient me to the local chow scene there.
Apart from recommendations for good places to eat, I'd be particularly appreciative for any information about:
1. Food that is typical of, or particularly good in, Vancouver, and that I might not be able to get in Brooklyn, NY. What do you guys normally like to eat, and what's special there?
2. Are there any neighborhoods where it would be good to base myself for ideal proximity to chow adventures. I'm thinking of staying out by UBC at a place that a friend recommended, but wonder if that'll be too far for convenient access to interesting restaurants. (Alas, my grasp of Vancouver geography is still barely rudimentary).
I'll be traveling on a limited budget so would prefer recommendations for places that aren't too expensive, although I may splurge on one or two nice dinners.
Many thanks in advance for your help!
