this report is based on 2 different buffet experiences.

the first is the pan pacific hotel sunday brunch in the pacifica cafe (downtown vancouver waterfront)

the second is regarding the river rock casino resort dinner buffet.

first the pan pacific brunch:

i rate this buffet brunch experience as a solid 9/10!

food: incredible!

alaskan king crab chilled and all legs, claws cut in half lengthwise so you can just pull out the meat. no mess , no fuss!

chilled oysters, jumbo shrimps, cheese plate, croissants, artisan breads, excellent sushi rolls.

hot food:

great sausages, bacon, eggs benedict, dim sum, duck breast in delicious sauce, superb baked sea bass (most incredible fish i have ever eaten -only thing missing was rice to go with the fish), perfectly cooked prime rib, salmon wellington, spicy chicken stir-fry and noodles. omelet station.

juices: freshley squeezed juices! orange, apple, and others. the taste was amazing!

service: the best! they take your coat and hang it for you. attentive wait staff. any concerns are promptly addressed. for example, i noticed that there were not any alaskan king crab legs on the plate with the shrimps. i asked one of the staff if there was more coming. he said he would check with the chef; asked where i was seated. approximately 5 minutes later the waiter came to my table to inform me that more alaskan king crab was just placed on the serving area.
i really felt there was a genuine concern made by all staff that my dining experience be as enjoyable as possible! I have never experienced better service.

there was also live entertainment. a jazz guitar duo playing throughout the brunch period.

i spent a very enjoyable 2.5 hours there.

cost was 45.00 per person plus 13 dollars for parking!

i feel the 45.00 is great value considering the absolute fantastic quality of the food, the service and the beauiful ambiance (window seat and beautiful mountain views). i suggest when making a reservation, to request a window seat in advance. make sure to reserve as the restaurant was just packed!

parking is the problem, and next time i will look for a cheaper alternative. parking cost is 2.25 per 1/2 hour.

now for the river rock casino buffet review:

I had been to the buffet at the casino previously, and was disappointed by the mediocre food offerings. I took the time to write a two page note to the manager, which the waiter then took to the food services manager.
in the note, i detailed all of the shortcomings i noticed about the buffet such as poor quality food, food is made by some guys they just hire off the street.

I then heard that the price of the dinner buffet was reduced mon-thurs from 21.95 to 17.95. I thought that maybe the management were trying to get more people to come in by dropping the price and hopefully improving the food quality.

wow was i disappointed. the food is actually getting worse! you could do better at uncle willy's or any other run of the mill 8.00 buffet experince!

there were maybe only 20 customers and the place holds over 300 easily.

I had high hopes for this buffet because of the hype surrounding this casino "resort". my hopes were based on my vegas experience.

even in the casino i ran into others who tried the buffet previously and vowed never to go again unless they drastically improve the food.

dont waste your money by eating at the river rock casino!
