Valentine's Day is apparently the second-most loathed night of the year for restaurant waitstaffs (after Mother's Day, though apparently the Eve of V-Day is nearly as bad: see the hilarious Waiter Rant blog's posts on the subject linked below).
I actually broke my own rule ("stay in on horror holidays") in the name of research, choosing an out-of-the-way Latino place in Eastie that was busy but apparently free of Valentine's dates, mostly families and groups of friends. It was awesome and cheap and free of the V-Day evil I have come to expect (harried staff, pumped prices, limited menus of below-usual-quality food, whiney two-tops everywhere).
But I occasionally hear that it's not as bad as I make it out to be. The Waiter Rant waiter even had a good night! I'm hoping to see some clear-eyed, positive reports on dinners out in Greater Boston last night.
