Spent Thanksgiving in Valentine, Nebraska. (Anyone who has not cruised up Nebraska hwy 2 is missing some wonderful scenery . . . & train spotting). Valentine is north of Hwy2 (Jct US83 & US20) in NCntrl part of the state.
Bad news: there is nowhere open on Thanksgiving in Valentine. Good news: the day after the Peppermill Restaurant on the main street had an excellent breakfast. (Or maybe it only seemed excellent after lukewarm gas-station pizza on Turkey Day).
Don't order extra bacon as I did you will get half a pig's worth: the original alloted portion is huge.
Looks a good bet for lunch & dinner too.
Be sure & check out the nearby wildlife reserve to see bison and elk and prairie dogs. Follow signs on main st.
Tradewinds Motel on E side of town very quiet with nice rooms. And something I particularly like: if they have 4 guests they spread them out: do no tput them in adjacent rooms. A little touch that few motels (or hotels for that matter) observe. Makes all the difference to not hear neighbor's TV.
JUST DON'T SPEND THANKSGIVING THERE unless you like tinned cocktail wieners & nacho chips.
