My wife and I made it out to Kromel's Playhouse Cafe (on 28 in Stoneham Center) and had an absolutely delicious, great, fantastic dinner (thanks go out to Linda W for reminding me of Kromels in a post a long time ago...linked below).
I had made reservations, surprisingly (for me), well in advance of Valentine's Day. When we got there last night (after some bizarre and confusing Stoneham center parking...all sorts of behind-business "parking" that was totally unmarked) the small restaurant was full, but there was only a couple minute wait for our seat.
I had never been before, but the place was very very comfortable. Small tables, small dining area, crowded, but in a nice, comfortable way. There was a great smell in the place, and a "homey" bustle and chatter in the air.
We were served promptly (all night the waitstaff was very friendly), I ordered a Newcastle to start (for some weird reason), hot & crusty rolls were brought out...and we ordered our meal. We both ordered from the "pick and choose from the grille" menu: I ordered a 10oz Sirloin (topped with blue cheese butter) with mushroom risotto and steamed spinach, my wife order grilled chicken (topped with herbed butter) with the mushroom risotto and asparagus. All in all the meal was delicious...generous proportions, tender meat...very hearty. A great "comfort food" dinner (though a little heavy on my part for a Valentine's day dinner...my own fault...but I was hungry). We finished the meal off with nicely prepared vanilla bean creme brulle and I had a coffee "Royale" (with brandy).
An excellent little place. We'll definitely be back!
