Valbella - why bother?

Took my mother out for her birthday at Valbella last night and now I am left scratching my head and wondering what the attraction is.

Fried stuffed zuchini flowers too full of stuffing so the middle was cold, "homemade" linguini with truffle sauce with either dried or badly made linguini and a tasty, but nowhere near sublime truffle sauce, an overcooked veal "mignon" special main, very overpriced cocktails and extremely overpriced wine.

The best things we ate all night was the cheese and salumi plate that came with the drinks at the bar and the apple tart with caramel sauce.

This was in no way worth $520, and was not even in the same league as other restaurants we could have spent the same or even a bit less money at. I'd have been happy to even spend a few dollars more and eaten at Per Se.

I know I can't expect the quality of even the humblest mom and pop joint's pici in any town in Italy at any place here in the states, but there are some good "fata in casa" noodles to be found. This was not it.
