In Lakeview this morning, the wife and I decided to grab lunch at Hot Doug's ... or, as she continues to accidentally call it, "Doug's Dogs."
It remains a good, efficient lunch destination with plenty of personality.
My wife ordered her regular: dog, charred, everything but raw instead of carmelized onions, plus sport peppers (not included in Doug's "everything").
I went with the sausage of the day, The Mountainman. In asking Doug the ingredients, he pointed to the sign on the counter that reads: "a darn tasty combination of venison, buffalo, elk, caribou, bear and musk ox." Bear? Prepared with brown mustard and carmelized onions (as recommended for most of the "gamey" sausages) it was quite tasty.
Of course, despite our arrival at 11:30 a.m., there was still a good 18-minute wait for the duck fat fries. Instead, we split an order of large cheese fries.
Looking around the corner, Doug is taking a vacation and Hot Doug's will be closed starting Thursday, July 3 until he reopens Monday, July 7.
