UWS Manhattan Diner Salad

I had an hour to grab a bite between engagements on the UWS. I wandered into the Manhattan diner on 77th and Broadway around 3:30pm on Wednesday and ordered a cobb salad and a chocolate shake.

Color me surprised but that salad was terrific. In my experience, diner salads are hit and miss and I knew I was taking my chances. What they brought out was a fresh, beautiful salad: gorgeous mixed greens piled high with fresh avocado, onion, green pepper, bacon (still warm), and loads of chicken (looked seared - no grill marks) and one of the best balsamic vinaigrettes I've had that wasn't in my own kitchen. My ONLY complaints were that the chicken was a bit dry and that I needed a seperate plate to disassemble, cut up the items, and then reassemble my plate. I just can't get over how 'just out of garden' everything looked and tasted. (and not to mention cheap!)

I didn't order the chocolate shake until about 1/2 way through my salad so it was more for dessert than anything. Wow, thick, super chocolately, rich, not too too sweet. I made an audible sound of appreciation after my first thick slurp.

Was the perfect meal for a hot summer day.
