Utterly authentic French restaurants in D.C. area?

Browniebaker | Feb 28, 2003 10:22 AM

I'm planning a special dinner for my husband's and my wedding anniversary in June and would like it to be at a French restaurant. We spent our honeymoon eating at Michelin three-stars in Burgundy, so I am afraid that a French dinner in D.C. might be a let-down after reaching those gastronomical heights. Please, can anyone recommend an absolutely authentic French restaurant in D.C., Maryland, or Northern Virginia for a special evening? What do you think of La Colline or l'Auberge chez Francois, about both of which I have read mixed reviews? Any other restaurants to consider?

Thanks so much for any and all suggestions you can offer!
