ending with Farnhams this past weekend. Took a gamble and chose to take an out-of-town guest to the only clam place I hadn't yet tried. Hit Farnhams about 7:00 on Saturday night, found the place almost empty (it was a rainy, "huddle by the fireplace" kind of night), but the teenage girls on duty were really friendly to three adults and my two kids. But the food, and the atmosphere, was less than welcoming. The place is so well lit--no relaxing ambiance here, but no clam shack energy, either. Both fried clams and onion rings (I don't do fries, so onion rings are always my litmus test) were tasteless. My friend remarked that, "at least they're not greasy." Go figure, though, the scallops were the best we'd ever had. Chowder was OK, just OK. Everybody was mildly disappointed at the food, but really disappointed in the atmosphere. It's just not relaxing--you feel like you're in a fried seafood Burger King: eat and get out.
