urgent mascarpone/ricotta question!

I am having some people over to dinner tonight. For dessert I am making a tart lemon cake (the Ina Garten one recommended on this site a while back). I've made a raspberry sauce, and thought I might whip some cream as well. I was at the farmers' market this morning and the dairy guy was out of cream. I vaguely remembered a recipe from Classic Home Desserts called something like Light Cannoli Cream that mixed cheese with a little orange zest, milk and cointreau, so I bought some mascarpone. But when I got home and checked, the recipe called for ricotta, not mascarpone.

Can I substitute, or does anyone have any other suggestions for the mascapone in this fashion?

Thanks also to all who answered my query last week regarding the carb side dish. I got lots of good suggestions and ultimately made the orzo salad with peas etc recommended by Carb Lover, but I've saved the other great ideas as well!
