This is directed primarily to those of you who only check this board, and don't generally look at the Chowhound home page or other boards. I am a NY-er who visits the NE board, and area, pretty regularly. I believe there are many of you out there who have come to rely on this board for info and community.
In the past week there's been quite a swirl of attention, on a variety of boards, for the launch of the Chowmarket. I was kind of surprised not to see a mention of it here on this board. Since nobody else has done it, here goes....
In a nutshell - PLEASE HELP THIS SITE. This friendly, good-natured, informative (some might say invaluable,) message board could go away. Seriously. Last week, after a day or two of minimal response to the Chowmarket, there were some pretty dire postings from Jim about Chowhound's financial straits, and even NE's own Pat Hammond lost her cool under the strain.
PLEASE SPEND A LITTLE MONEY. Not much. Buy a subscription or two to ChowNews, give 'em as gifts if you don't get around much to NY, LA or SF. Buy a button or a fridge magnet. Donate a unit of Goodwill, if this site's continued existence is worth 20 bucks to you. Jim and Pat say it's urgent, and I believe it must be.
End of pitch. Thanks for reading it.
