Upstairs - Night 2 RW

Went to dinner at Upstairs on the Square last night for RW. While the food was excellent, unfortunately I can't say the same about the service.

As for the food... good descriptions from night one were posted yesterday so won't go into those details again. We both had the beet/arugula/pistachio salad which was a great start. I had the cannelloni-- a bit rich for my taste, but very flavorful (I did manage to clean the plate); my boyfriend had the salmon. Dessert was not what I would normally order (only had one choice), but it was excellent.

However-- my disappointment was with the service. The first course came IMMEDIATELY-- and by immediately, I mean, before our drinks, before bread. We had to ask for bread, and remind them that we ordered drinks. At this point, I thought they were trying to rush people out to refill tables for the busy RW. But I was wrong... our next course took AN HOUR to come. During this time, we finished our drinks but the waiter didn't bother to come by to see if we need more drinks until after our dinner was served. Apparently, he said the delay was b/c a lot of orders went into the kitchen at once. Bad planning on the side of reservations to turn over all tables at the same time??? After we finished this course, the waiter suggested waiting a few minutes before dessert and coffee-- and told us to flag him down when we wanted him to bring our dessert. Then he proceeded to disappear completely for about a half hour. When he finally came back, we asked for coffee and dessert, which took another 25 minutes (when they are only serving one dessert on the RW menu, shouldn't it be fairly quick?).

I also noticed that some of the other tables were very close to the crowded bar-- so that people standing at the bar were practically on top of some people dining at those tables. Glad we weren't at one of those tables...

Would go back for the food, but hesitant b/c of the service. Is it normally like that, or is it just b/c of restaurant week?

Hoping for better experiences at Mantra (dinner) and No. 9 Park (lunch) later this week... anyone been?
