Possible Uphill Alert in Ft Greene

cj | Nov 26, 2002 10:57 AM

i wanted to wait 'til i had another meal or two before i posted this, but times a'wastin' and maybe other folks can check it out.

sol in ft greene, bk has been discussed once or twice on these boards, but not w/ much enthusiasm. people looking for suggestions in the hood are usually directed elsewhere...but maybe things have improved at sol...

i live down the block and sol's my usual watering hole. i'd never eaten much there, and found what i'd had in the past either waaay too salty or generally forgettable. approximately two months ago i stopped in for a drink and chatted with the owner. it so happened they were changing the menu that night and the owner said he had brought in two new chefs. both cooked previously in other bk restaurants, one at ali di la. the owner seemed to expect considerable improvement in the food.

since then, i've eaten twice, though i've ordered the same thing both times. (has to do w/ my hunger level...the main dinner entrees generally sound like too much food, though i don't really know what portion sizes are.) so maybe all i can say is the chicken wrap is excellent (perfectly grilled veggies in the wrap, served w/ some salad greens w/ a lemony dressing and seasoned fries), but it seems things might be on the upswing in the kitchen. i'm eager to try some of the more interesting items i see listed nightly.

added bonus: everyone who works at sol is lovely, helpful and friendly...a rarity in the neighborhood.

sol is on the corner of dekalb and clermont avenues.
