Upgrading cookware All-Clad, Calphalon, Le Creuset?

Briennewitt | Jun 19, 201811:30 AM     75

I recently got married and am working through what to keep, what to return and what to buy. We originally registered for the All-Clad D5 15 piece set (8", 10" fry pan, 2 qt sauce pan, 4 & 6 qt saute, 3 qt pan w steamer, 8 qt stock pot). I am however now considering going Calphalon instead, although I don't like the glass lids. A lot of what I read on here says that its is so close to the D5 that paying the premium for the All-Clad seems silly. I also plan on returning some Le Creuset Stoneware bakers I received and purchasing a 5.5 qt round Le Creuset Dutch oven. I don't see the point in paying such a premium for the bakers when the dutch oven is really the pinnacle of LC cookware. I also see stoneware by other makers at a much lower price. Is this a correct evaluation? I already own a large cast iron skillet which I use regularly. I consider myself an intermediate cook and am looking forward to upgrading my cookware since I am currently using what I have had since college. I just want to be methodical about it and make the right choices by buying pieces that I will get a lot of use out of.
