Update to policy for Bloggers and Journalists

Jacquilynne | Jan 4, 2011 11:59 AM

The use of signatures and blog links on Chowhound is always controversial. We get about equal numbers of complaints from bloggers who are angry that we won't let them simply link the restaurant reviews on their blogs as we do from members who are annoyed by bloggers who seem to be here mainly to promote their blogs. We also get email from people who don't quite understand the blog-linking policy in our etiquette, as well as reports accusing people who are complying with the policy of being spammers.

We try to strike a balance -- allowing people to link their blogs in their profiles, and as a part of a signature, but requiring that they actively participate in the conversation on Chowhound rather than just referring people to their blogs.

We've updated the Etiquette for Bloggers and Journalists: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/3676... to clarify our guidelines. There isn't really a policy shift, just an attempt to clear up the policies we were already enforcing.

We hope people will find the updated guidelines clearer and more helpful, but if any questions remain, please ask them in this thread.
