I'm planning a trip through western Slovenia, Istria (and Friuli - but that's another board), and I was wondering if anyone had any recent recommendations to share that would fall into the categories of either Slow Food or updated-traditional-yet-casual.
I'm finding a lot of recommendations that sound great but seem to be fine dining (Kantinon, Monte, Le Mandrac, Jb). We'll certainly do some of those, but couldn't do that for every meal. Plus I don't want to go all the way to Istria to eat food that tastes like the same stuff French-trained chefs here in NY would make - I want stuff I can only get there (and I love love love cevapi and girice)!
Any advice / updates on info in old posts is very appreciated.
