Upbeat spots for Seattlite solo dining?

Thanks in advance for any help offered! I've read through these boards, LAWeekly, Citysearch and I'm lost.

I'll be in LA this Wed-Friday and hoping to dine at some places that are comfortable for a mid-forties solo female diner. I want to have a plan of action so I don't spend $50 any old place when a great spot was right around the corner! I'm excited to try some great places and report back to my Seattle foodies.

Any suggestions for some festive spots with fresh flavors, fish eating vegetarian-friendly where I can sit at a bar? Upbeat and busy places would be preferable. The top hip happening places aren't necessary. Nook, in reading about the place and seeing the menu, is on my list for lunch. I also love wine and mediterranean flavors

I'm staying in Glendale but I have a car. My stomping grounds would be Hollywood, WestLA, Santa Monica, Venice etc. or anyplace within a reasonable driving distance where I can find parking. I'm avoiding the SFV, since that's where I'm originally from, and looking for more "happening" places! I'm also hitting Farmer's Market Thursday day.

Thanks for your suggestions.
