We are having an informal party and my fairly new SIL has grown daughters who she always assumes is invited to everything our side of the family does so she invited one of them to our party. We are lacking in space, therefore only planning for so many people. I know it’s only one more person (and probably her 2 month old baby) but she wasn’t on the guest list and this isn’t the first time my SIL has done this, she has done this to other family members too. No one wants to say anything in fear of upsetting the BIL, who is actually the blood member of the family.
We really don’t know her (the daughter) well, haven’t been around her much and honestly don’t consider her our family or even a friend.
Is it ok to tell our SIL politely we can’t accommodate her daughter due to space or because she’s her daughter do we have to just allow her to attend? (Seems unfair that she should be present when there many others we were unable to invite due to space restrictions).
