Most people go to Kimukatsu on Sawtelle for their signature 25-layer tonkatsu, which has been exactly my usual M.O. there since they opened.
That is, until I ordered their ramen last week...
Outstanding. The Kimukatsu ramen features an incredibly hearty, welcoming, punch-you-in-our-face delicious bone broth, topped simply with fresh boiled spinach, ajitama, nori and wonderful slices of chashu. The noodles soak in just enough broth and yet retain strength on each bite.
I suppose I should be surprised to find ramen of this caliber in a non-ramenya. But then again, Kimukatsu does specialize in pork, after all. This bowl skyrockets to my top 3 ramen in L.A. Go.
(Part of the fun is watching all the miserable yelpies next door at Tatsu, each queuing up for their chance to slurp whatever it is that passes for ramen there.)
