I have been noticing lately how hideous many (especially "new") food and drink packagings have become. The new Sierra Mist soda can is a case in point -- who pronounced that jumbled green and yellow monstrosity a winner? Certain categories of products, such as jams, or pasta, seem to have relatively attractive packaging, while others, especially those designed to appeal to kids, are increasingly cluttered, frenetic and just plain ugly. Also, most redesigns, especially of iconic labels like Heinz baked beans or Campbell's soups, seem to succeed only in making those products look less iconic and more generic. Perhaps it's just my perception, but mass food and drink packaging seems to be getting more and more unattractive these days.
