My grandmother made Christmas cookies when I was a kid in the 1950s. Here's the recipe she typed up and gave to me. When I make it , the cookies taste very blah. What am I doing wrong?
Here is the recipe, exactly as she typed it:
Heat 1 1/2 cup dark molasses until it boils.
Dissolve 1 tsp baking soda in 1/2 cup boiling water.
Stir 2 tsp powdered ginger and 1 tsp cinnamon in 1/2 cup sugar. Cut into 1 cup butter.
Pour hot molasses over the butter-sugar combination, add soda and water and stir well.
Gradually add 6 cups sifted flour.
Chill and roll out thin.
Bake about 10 minutes in 350 degree oven.
