For those of you who long to make correct tuscan style minestrone or perhaps just look at a glorious blue-black vegetable, one of the farmers at the Brooklyn Grand Army Plaza farmers market is bringing in cavolo nero, tuscan black kale this days. I believe the farm is called Baldwin Farm .it is operated by a bearded ex-chef who also offers free range eggs, superlative garlic and herbs, as well as many other greens, kidney, cannellini and borlotti beans in the pod (edamame earlier in the season) etc. etc.
The farmer complained that no one had bought the kale in the summer when he brought it in - he stopped bringing it because he didnt want to have to compost it at the end of the day. Please encourage him to keep growing this veg by buying it, this fall, during its peak season.
