Tuesday Tastings at Luka's - unbelievable!

Morton the Mousse | Nov 9, 2005 04:22 PM

I hope I'm not the only Hound who made it to the Tuesday Tasting at Luka's; the event was awesome! They held it in the back cocktail lounge. There was a table with seven Belgian beers, a table with fine cheeses and a table with Fatted Calf charcuterie (including mortadella and rabit pate, drool).

So they had a flight of seven beers. I figured, I drink my flight, and I'm done, right? Wrong! After finishing the seventh, I sheepishly asked the pourer, "can I come back and try my favorites again?" His responce was, "I'm here until 8, drink all you like." I was as happy as a little boy on Christmas.

For $20 I got unlimited charcut, unlimited cheese, and unlimited Belgian beer. Looking back on the evening (the second half is a little hazy) I don't quite understand the numbers. I mean, I easily ate and drank more than $20 worth of food and beer. Unfortunately, the cheese and charcut was a one time thing. But they do intend to continue tasting Belgians. Unlimited Belgian beer for $20 is an incredible deal. Get out to Luka's now, because I just don't quite get how they can be making money on this thing and I worry they may impose a limit on pours in the near future.

They were very accomodating. Mrs. Mousse wasn't in a drinking mood, so they set up a table for us in the lounge and let her order off the menu. I must say, the food here is quite good. The french fries are some of the best in the city. The cauliflower soup and rib eye steak were both excellent. I always thought of it as a place to drink beer, but the restaurant is good enough to stand alone. If you come on a Tuesday, order dinner in the lounge and have unlimited Belgian beer to pair with your meal for $20.
