I recently purchased a black truffle at Boston's finest market. It's the first time I've had a truffle. I purchased a truffle shaver, cleaned it according to the store's directions, and shaved it over a prime cut of beef. To say I was dissapointed is to put it mildly. The truffle shavings had virtually NO TASTE. Two quick questions to those truffle lovers out there: Did I purchase an old truffle? Is it suppossed to have virtually no taste? I own a bottle of truffle oil and it is one of the most fragarant things I've ever smelled. I find it hard to believe that a black truffle wouldn't have any flavor. Please give me some guidance before I approach the store and make a jerk of myself.
