recent trips in the san gabriel valley

recs from my latest food excursions:

1. pho (i think it's the name of the restaurant) on north side of valley just past the great mall of china. great beef noodle soup, get medium sized noodles and the spicy red soup version. their regular pho is mediocre.

2. bale sandwiches at the southeast corner of valley and atlantic, next to del taco. great banh mi on fresh baguettes (i prefer the BBQ pork one, but the special bale sandwich is good if you like that smear of pate), a frig full of various desserts in cups, gia luo, the pink meat squares with garlic and chile on top, the little round soft rice cakes with ground egg and coconut that you douse with fish sauce.

3. chiquita bonita in pasadena on colorado. homestyle mexican breakfasts and the soups are decent. i wouldn't go out of your way to come here, it's just something pleasant and reasonably priced if you don't feel like driving.
