Hi...I just came back from a couple of nights in the city. I had a fantastic trip, like always, and I even found a couple of new restaurants. I traveled alone this time and had a wonderful time eating alone. Here are the restaurants that I went to:
-The first night I ate at Campanile because I was tired and I wanted to be sure to get a wonderful meal in a subdued atmosphere. I did not want loud people and I wanted great food. I had both. I had the salmon and it was very good.
-The concierge at my hotel, Brian from 6 Columbus circle, suggested Centro vinoteca to me. I am glad that I followed his suggestion because I had a great dinner there. The food was excellent and they have quartinos of wine which is a concept I love. I ate at the bar and had a conversation with a guy who worked at Babbo. We had a conversation about restaurants in NY which is a topic I always love discussing!
-I always wanted to try l'Artisanal and I am glad I did. I had the artisanal blend cheese fondue and it was excellent. They have one of the greatest wine list by the glass I have ever seen. They are not too expensive either. I had a Vacqueras for 12$ and a Gigondas for 15$. I sure will be going back for their steak tartare which is supposed to be excellent.
-On my last night, I wanted a place right by the hotel and I found Nino's of Tuscany while looking in the zagat. I am glad I went there because the food was excellent (I had linguine vongole and lamb meat balls as an appetizer) and they have a pianist. Irving Fields, who is 92 by the way, plays there 6 ngihts a week. He comes around the room to ask for special requests and loves to talk also. I loved having dinner there! If I bring my parents back to NY in March, I will bring them there because they will love it I am pretty sure. I finished my wine at the bar and the barman offered me another glass of wine on the house.
-I also had appetizers at the the Blue ribbon restaurant in my hotel (west 58th west of 8th avenue) and they were excellent. I had salmon tartare, yellow fin tartare and shrimp dumplings at the bar. The barmen were all super nice. I had the best margarita ever! I went back for another one the day after and the barman offered me one on the house! The staff is also super nice and doesn't give any attitude.
If you are a single woman traveling alone and you are hesitating between staying home and going.....don't be afraid....GO!!! I did a museum, a walking tour, a day spa....I am a high school teacher and have a very demanding job so treating myself is fun and more women should do it:)
