Trip report (long)- great food and champagne cocktails in Seattle

Just got back from a couple of days of visiting my Seattle sister - lots of great food and cocktails.
We stopped for a drink at Sambar - wanted to see it before it closed. Sat out in the little courtyard on a beautiful evening - I had a kir royale and my sister had a bourbon-based cocktail. So lovely and so sorry it is now closed.

Dinner was pizza at Delancey. I enjoyed reading Molly Wizenberg's book so I wanted to see what the restaurant was all about. The spring greens salad was delicious - lightly dressed, with pickled rhubarb and ricotta salata. Very very nice. We also ordered the cremini pizza and added garlic scapes to it as well as ordering the sausage/tomato sauce pizza. The sausage pizza was great - fresh tasting sauce, light and crisp crust, and little balls of sausage. Nice. The cremini pizza was underwhelming - kind of dry and bland. We also had the chocolate chunk cookie for dessert - it was fine, but nothing special. If I ever crave pizza when I am in Seattle, I would probably go back to Serious Pie rather than Delancey - I like the happy hour because you can try different small pizzas rather than ordering big ones.

Next day we ate brunch at home - and then had drinks/appetizers at the Pink Door during their happy hour. My Amore in Amalfi cocktail was fantastic as was my sisters bourbon cocktail. We also had the truffled popcorn - one of my favorite things - and the sauted calamari. The calamari was very tender and came with tomatoes and spinach. Nice bread that we dipped in the garlicky calamari sauce and very lemony olive oil.

Dinner was at Bookbindery. We sat in the glass-enclosed atrium-like room and my recommendation is to get the chicken. Loved the truffle flavor, the salad, and the lardons. One of the best chicken dishes that I have ever had. My sister had the rack of lamb - it was fine, but the elements seemed more disparate - tasted like separate elements put together rather than a cohesive dish.

Next day was brunch at Coterie Room. It was very quiet and the service was surprisingly unprofessional. Tried the ham cracklings and the spring onion fondue. We had read raves of the cracklings but they were not that exciting to us - light, but not flavorful. The duck egg florentine was very good - but could have used some citrus to lift it a bit. The smoked crab with hollandaise was wonderful! Would go back for that.

After the ballet, we had cocktails at Tavern Law. More champagne - more bourbon - lots of bitters.
We then went to Ba Bar because i always get pho when I am in Seattle. Had delicate, crispy Imperial rolls for starters and then the beef pho - she had the peking duck. Love the atmosphere and the pho there. Great depth of flavor to the broth and the accompaniments are so fresh. My sister loved her duck. Great place.
