We are finally in Rome now and just completed our first day of dining.
We had lunch at Emma. We ordered 2 pizzas: a Margherita Red Cow pizza and a SuperBio Pizza. Of the two, I enjoyed the Margherita Pizza a lot more. The superbio pizza just felt like it had way too much buffalo cheese, which turned into a plastic texture after it is cooled. Since the 2 pizzas arrived at the same time, it was inevitable that by the time you finish one the other pizza is cold. We also ordered burrata with olives and sun-dried tomato, fresh/cooked artichoke salad, and prosciutto plate. The starters were good considering it was our first meal in Rome, however, I can't say that they blew me away. Price for 4 people (including a bottle of wine at 18 euros) was 85 euros. The place was pretty empty at lunch, we were the only table sitting inside. The inside dining area was filled with sunlight and lovely. Good service with the waiter too.
We had dinner at Armando al Pantheon. After reading consistently good reviews here I had high expectations of the place, and while it was not bad, it was not perfect either. The carbonara was good, the bacon bits was simply divine. We also had an arugula, lemon, Parmesan pasta which was all right. The duck cooked with plum (which looked like one of their signature dish) was completely dry, not good. The side dish we got, artichoke and chichory were really so-so. Certain bites of the chichory was ridiculously salty. Price for 4 people (including a bottle of wine at 32 euros) was 95 euros.
The highlight of the day was actually the cafe completo at Cafe Camerino. I have never ordered that before and it was really delicious!
More reports to come!
