My hubby and I (who have bought investment property near Carrollton) were in N.O. the first week of October. We ate at a new little restaurant (second time there) on Carrollton called Shell Shucked. I had fried green tomatoes with crayfish sauce (had it there the first time in June and it was sooo good, I ordered it again) with garlic bread. A light, filling lunch.
We had the early-bird special at Brightsens. Service was excellent and the food was excellent - except the butter was "off" (had picked up tastes from the fridge). But, our meal was spoiled by the male half of a couple sitting on the front porch (we were on the other side of the wall) who felt it necessary to leave his cell phone on and he got SIX calls in the short time we were there. He talked louder on the phone than he did to his dining companion and I could tell you a lot about his personal life (if you got a job offer from Hibernia on October 5 on the way back from a wake or funeral in Lafayette, you know who I'm talking about). We didn't complain as they seemed to be regulars. The waitress brought them a lagniappe from Frank shortly after they were seated. I think restaurants need to post a sign at the hostess station asking patrons to please use their cell phones only in the waiting area and be considerate of other customers.
The meal at Dick and Jenny's was wonderful and the prices were quite reasonable. Four of us went and we shared a lot of the appetizers (fried oysters, gazpacho, salads, crabmeat cheesecake)plus two of us had full meals and a dessert and offered me tastes. Best meal of the whole trip.
The lunch at K-Pauls was also very good. My sister, who works in the Quarter, eats there on occasion and they recognized her so sent us a lagniappe of fried oysters.
All in all, I was very pleased with all our meals (rude customers notwithstanding) and felt they all outshone anything I have eaten in the Seattle area recently.
