Just wanted to say thanks to everyone on this board for their input on our trip to SF. We had a wonderful time in your city and had some wonderful food.
Farm:Table - I really liked this little (and I do emphasize "little") neighborhood gem. The menu consisted of 3 choices. My husband and I ordered 2 of them and found them very tasty. Loved the coffee as well. Service was very friendly.
Washington Bakery in Chinatown...I thought it was "blah". Their egg custard was good, but the BBq Pork buns were not as good as what I get in San Diego.
Dinner at La Folie. This meal was the highlight of our trip. We ordered the 4 course (which became 7 courses due to generosity of the chef) My favorite thing: The snails with bone marrow....delicious, savory goodness. The timing and service at this restaurant was impeccable. The dessert course was one of the best I've had in-house in a long time ( I normally go to specialty dessert place after dinner at most restaurants) It was a wonderful night and appreciate all who steered us in their direction.
Bocadillos - despite mediocre reviews on this board, I liked this place. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was not spectacular, (but then again, this was after La Folie, so everything paled in comparison) but I liked the spirit of the place and their Patatas Bravas with romesco sauce satisfied the carb fiend inside me. We also had a nice chocolate cake with banana ice cream that was very good.
Fish in Sausalito - Looooooved it. Food was fresh and well prepared/seasoned. Love the lemonade in mason jars, sitting outside in the warm sun. Brought cash thanks to tip from this board...One thing to note, this place gets busy....very busy. Be prepared to stand in line to put in your order. We didn't have to wait long, but between 1-2:30 we watched the line get longer and longer.
Ferry Building: I could live and die in that place. Cowgirl Creamery, Blue Bottle, Acme Bread (loved the ham and cheese turnover here), Miettes (cloud topped key lime tartlett). Saturday's farmer's market was wonderful and exactly what a farmers market should be.
Chez Panisse - a let down. The food was good, but unremarkable. Service was good. Saw Curtis Stone (chef on The Apprentice) eating there. I was underwhelmed though.
Palace Hotel - had a nice breakfast buffet in their grand room. Great selection, good quality in a very grand setting.
