Thanks to all of you who helped us put together a great weekend trip. Here's a brief report.
Started Friday night at Topolobampo. We had the lobster and the lamb entrees. Both were excellent. The crepe dessert with goat milk caramel was to die for.
Saturday lunch at NoMi was outstanding. The scallop tart appetizer and the sweetbread risotto were the best pair I had all weekend, in spite of some of the competition.
Saturday night we did the Charlie Trotter thing. Got started very poorly. The lobby/bar was packed. Checked in and were told "Thank you," then ignored for the next thirty minutes. After asking two different people behind the bar, finally got a glass of wine. First guy asked simply ignored my wife's request. Forty minutes late, we were seated upstairs at a great table. Really liked the room and everything from that point on was wonderful. The food lived up to its billing -- included tuna, poullard, hamachi, bison. All superb. Desserts, desserts, desserts! Great experience! Would I do it again? Maybe. Awfully expensive to make a habit.
Sunday lunch at Lou Malnati's on Wells. Our first Chicago pizza and we loved it. Also, the Malnati's salad was great.
Sunday night -- Spiaggia. Beautiful place. Excellent service. Wonderful food. All around a great evening. Just the six block walk back to the hotel was rough. It was about 10 degrees and the wind was blowing.
Had a great first visit to Chicago. Look forward to going again -- but maybe when it's a little warmer!
