Trip Report from 07/30-08/03 Day 1 and 2

Just got back from NOLA and had a fabulous time, thanks to all of you for the great recs. Here it goes. In case you are wondering we stayed at the Ritz Carlton and it was fabulous.

Parkway Bakery and Tavern- Wonderful as always, unfortunately the the Canal Street car was inoperable, so we had to take a taxi cab. For some reason every time we take a cab to Parkway, the drivers are clueless to the location............ Unbelievable! Back to the food. My boyfriend and I split a large Oyster Poboy and a large Roastbeef Poboy, both were fantastic. We also split an order of regular french fries and Sweet Potato FF, both good as well and of course you need Barqs longneck to watch it down.

Brennan's- For dessert we hit Brennan's. We drank delicious coffee and split a bananas foster, incredible as always. We didn't want a huge dinner, we were trying to slowly stretch out our stomach's, so we decided to do a few apps and cocktails.
First stop:
Palace Cafe- For cocktail's The star was a watermelon drink made with Brazilian rum, Cachaca, one word Yummy. We also had Tequila Sunrise. For apps we had the duck eggrolls and crawfish popcorn. Dessert was White Chocolate Bread Pudding The original- White Chocolate baked inside bread pudding, smothered with a warm white chocolate ganache. This meal was at best decent, The only thing I would go back for would be the watermelon cocktail, which we did. Next stop:
MÉLANGE at the Ritz, we wanted to go back to our hotel and listen to the live jazz, which was spectacular. Back to the food, we had the Beef Carpaccio which consisted of Arugula Salad, Aged Kashkaval Cheese, White Balsamic and Truffle Vinaigrette, delicious. Cheesecake Mélange- Savory Baked Cheese Cake includes Alligator, Turtle and Andouille Sausage, Remoulade Sauce. To wash it all down we had Wild Berry Mojitos, very refreshing. Food at Melange was very good.

Stanley's: What can I say, I had high expectations, being that it is Stella's sister, and it met them all. I had the Egg Stanley, Soft shell crab benedict, WOW! My boyfriend had Egg Stella which was eggs benedict with fried oysters, need I say more. We will be back, Oh we were.

August- I love this place, it never disappoints me. This was the first time we went for lunch and it was fabulous. I hope I can remember it all, lets see We had roasted figs stuffed with cheese wrapped in pork cheeks and drizzled in algiers honey, Hand-made potato gnocchi tossed with blue crab and Perigold truffle, and the last app was Crispy fried P&J oysters with blue cheese and butter-milk dressing. The main event: My boyfriend had the filet which was cooked to perfection served with mac and cheese, sorry i forgot the details. I had the lamb dish with rissotto. For dessert we had we had the blueberry ice cream sandwich and something with lime verbena, honey, and ice cream,a but I can not remember what it was, but the entire meal was incredible as always.

La Boca- Apps were PROVOLETA (Grilled Argentine Cheese, Oregano, & Olive Oil) and the GAUCHO PLATE (Chorizo, beef skewers, sweetbreads, & empanadas) both were very good. For dinner I had the CENTRO DE ENTRAÑ (14oz Hanger Steak), good but not note worthy. My boyfriend had the special sirloin skirt marinated in lime juice served with avocados, his was very good and we split the Ñoqui with Pancetta & Peas, fabulous, it would be worth going back just for the Ñoqui. We had dessert I just can not remember what.
