My wife and I are taking our first trip up to Chicago. We will be staying at a B&B in Oak Park and we will have a car. We are both architects and will be visiting as much of Chicago's architecture as possible in five days - but we both love food and love making it a centerpiece of our travels. I was wondering if anyone could throw out a few recommendations for us. We like carefully crafted foods over large portions, aren't scared of much, and are willing to stretch the budget if it's worth it. Anyway, I'd like to hear your thoughts on:
1) Nice places to eat in Oak Park
2) Good places to have a nice, but quick, lunch while seeing the downtown "tourist" attractions.
3) A good place to have a pre-theater dinner - we are going to the Briar Street Theatre on Tuesday.
4) Any places that have food specific to Chicago. Although the chains have tried to destroy "regionalism" I'm sure there must still be some great places that couldn't be anywhere but in Chicago.
Thanks so much for your help.
