A trio of lunches: Cafe Attari, Hop Li X 2 and Bilal

Entertaining 13 year old niece this week so took her to places that don't exist in Fargo, N.D.

First Cafe Attari on Westwood Blvd. Chanel meets Payless in a buzzing scene of marvellous food, charming outdoor patio with fountain and sweet service (counter person and regulars giving advice). Had the Kufa Puff (egg with some vegetables on an incredibly squashy baguette) with the yoghurt soup, sort of raita with chopped walnuts. Niece had the chicken kufta and partner had the volley ball size meatball in a soup cup. Can't remember Persian names but with the background music, this could have been Tehran twenty five years ago.

Hop Li, WLA - doesn't compare to Hop Li on Lincoln. One sings, the other doesnt and the Marina location is the singer - same menu, MUCH different taste, execution, service, ambiance. The Shrimp with walnuts is an addiction in itself and since we had to satisfy the out of towner's Chinese food yen, we did both locations this week.

Back from the airport, Bilal Indian and Pakistani again for lunch. 2.30pm restaurant was jammed with locals and multiple waiters swinging vast plates of biranyi, toasty hot naan and for me - dumplings in yoghurt sauce and mixed vegetables. Yum! The liquid diet allows this.
