Following recommendations both from friends and from fellow Chowhounds, we made our first visit to The Tower, a South Indian vegetarian restaurant in Morrisville, not far from the airport. I would say that it runs neck-and-neck with Udupi, which is saying a good deal (see my comments on Udupi below). The curries are arguably better at the Tower, but the dosai are inarguably better at Udupi. Breads are excellent at both restaurants. Despite some unaccountable flaws -- the gritty, dense ras malai at the Tower, the clumpy white rice at Udupi -- both restaurants take their places with Waraji and Gugelhopf in my local pantheon.

Thus far my favorite dishes are the paneer bhurji at Tower, and the chana batura and jaipuri paneer dosai at Udupi. These are dishes not to be missed.
