Triangle: A Mexican Warning

We've driven by La Hacienda on 15-501 in Chapel Hill for several years now and on a whim we decided finally to give it a try. This was a big mistake. It's the kind of restaurant that specializes in refried beans, orange rice, and American-Mex hallmarks, usually involving ground beef, all spread in a thin veneer on an enormous plate. This would not be so terrible, except that everything is reduced to the lowest possible level. The cheese is a vague goo and the beef is close to what I imagine canned dog food tastes like. We picked at our food and left. We've had two or three other Mexican meals of this type in town -- at Torrero in Cole Park Plaze for example -- but none this bad. There was one semi-bright spot. The complimentary tortilla chips and salsa were pretty good.
