I tried to take the visiting relatives to Xios, the excellent Greek restaurant in Apex, but we found it closed, strangely enough. My mother recommended Lucky 32, just down the road in Cary. The place looked nice (wood panelling, spiffy waiters, etc.) but the food was what I would call generic American, or perhaps haute airplane. Grilled chicken breasts with overcooked vegetables and sides of roasted potatos; heavy, overly sweet, caramel-laced desserts. You get the idea. Not a chowhoundy kind of place.
Happy Thanksgiving to all. (I just finished baking Joel Robuchon's chocolate tart -- the house smells great; next comes a French-style apple tart with gratineed almond cream; Rick Bayless' chocolate pecan pie; and of course a massive pumpkin pie. I'm on dessert detail).
