Last night my family stopped into Il Palio for dessert after a concert. The experience typifies the basic problem withe place: complete inconsistency. We had three desserts: Banana creme brulee (superb); tiramisu (very good); mint-icing covered brownie (the pits). I admit that ordering a mint-icing covered brownie was not the wisest decision, but we wanted to see what a good dessert chef could with a supermarket-style item. What we wound up with was essentially, well, a supermarket-style item. Our two meals at Il Palio have followed this same pattern. Some of the food has been outstanding and some has been thoroughly mediocre. If Il Palio could bring its entire menu up to the standard of its best dishes it would be a very good restaurant indeed.
