tre scalini - wonderful food, rude service

went friday night for my dad's birthday. My sister and i were a little late due to traffic, but my parents and other sister ordered appetizers (so as not to waste any time).

We arrived as the appetizers came out and that's when the waitress started pressuring us to leave. Nobody had picked up a fork yet and she wanted our entree orders. Ok, fine we all ordered. Service was slow (they were 1/2 empty, we sat down at 6:30) but that was ok, it gave us more timwe to chat and enjoy our wonderful apps (2 orders of polenta, 2 of mussells and a roasted pepper/mozerella - all were wonderful).

About ten minutes after we recieved our entrees she tried to start "clearing the table" (they were starting to get a little busy at this point). Kept trying to take people's plates as we were eating ("done yet?" "can i wrap that up for you"). God forbid you put your fork down for a minute. Entrees were excellent - (5 got the black paparadelle w/ crab and shrimp, other the veal chop) but it was hard to enjoy them with all the "pressure", we were ordering a good bid of food and spent a decent ammount of money, silly me for thinking i deserved to relax and enjoy my meal.

My mom had called ahead for a birthday cake, no dice. So she asked if she could bring one. The charge $2 a head to slice it (and we ordered some gelato to go with it). Again after about 5 minutes of "needlessly singing happy birthday and enjoying our cake" (just a bit of sarcasm) she told us their were people waiting for our table (there was a party of 2 waiting for our 6 top at the door).

We were ther for about 2 hours (mostly due to the slow service (which is fine, but you can't deliver slow service and then rush people at the same time) and spent about 250 including tip. For some reason i think i deserved better.

It's a shame cause the food was really good, but I'll never go back, i should have gone to boun appetito or lauletta's.
