Thanks to everyone who gave suggestions.

Along the Ramblas last night we ate at Attic. Terrific decor, service and food. It is upstairs on the north side of the street, and easy to see. Try the fried artichokes for a treat. We also liked the salads, rissoto, and we went crazy over the chocolate "cake" in lemon sauce. All very reasonably priced. The place opened at 7:00 and quickly filled with Americans and other tourists, the Spanish arriving much later. On a warm night, the 3rd floor terrace is the place to dine.
