Traveling with Ikra/roe spreads?

cresyd | Jun 9, 2013 04:17 AM

I currently live where there are some wonderful Russian ikra (roe) spreads available - and am wondering if there is any possible way to travel with these overseas (around 17+ hours total travel time, mostly air travel). Will this just die and smell dreadful if not refridgerated? Does this require traveling with a mini-cooler and looking for ice after passing through customs? Are various fish egg products even allowed through US customs? Is it just not worth it?
