Was in the (snowy) city a couple of weekends ago. Ate at Trattoria Toscana, Jean Georges' Nougatine & Hallo Berlin. All the food was good and the service even better. If you go to Trattoria Toscana make sure to get the cheese ravioli, and the 'light' tiramisu. Had a wonderful brunch at Nougatine overlooking the winter scene at Central Park. My Dad always talks about Yorkville and the great German and Finnish food he got there in 50's and 60's. Since that is long gone I took him to Hallo Berlin for dinner before going to Birdland. The place was mostly empty and cold but the food and service was good. At Birdland we saw Chico O'Farrell, a fantastic show (coming from a rocker girl) and the carrot cake I had there was excellent. NYer's I envy the great service and tolerable noise level of restaurants you have compared to my home town of Seattle.
