Tradition by Pascal (Newport Beach)

After hearing some good press, I took a friend there for lunch thinking it would be a nice treat, but we were substantially underwhelmed. I had onion soup and chicken and mushroom crepes -- the type of food at which a good French restaurant should excel -- but they were both only "fine". No off-notes, but not very interesting or flavorful either. When I leave a pile of mushrooms covered in cream sauce on the plate to be taken away because I'm not that hungry, you know something's wrong. (Since when do I have to be hungry to eat good food?) My friend was also not that excited by her vegetable soup and seafood brochette.

Was it because we ordered the less expensive lunch specials? Is it better at dinner? Or to put it even more bluntly: should I bother going back?

PS: They've changed the name from Pascal to Tradition by Pascal on the sign, menu, voice mail, etc. although they haven't updated it on their website yet.
