Urgh! So frustrated and sad to report that the small frozen croissants that I have been buying from Trader Joe's out of their frozen "breakfast" inventory for nearly ten years have been substituted with a far less tasty impostor, that takes longer to cook and resembles King's Hawaiian Sweetbread more than the flaky, buttery croissants. The new 'fake' croissant also comes frozen but comes in a plastic bag instead of in a box to protect the shape should it begin to defrost on the way home in hot, humid Brooklyn summers. I am a small Bed & Breakfast owner, and my guests have raved about the old croissants for years and couldn't believe it when I told them they were frozen from TJ's!!! Well, I hope the business reasons for this switch were significant, because I am searching for a better alternative to the 'new, fake' croissants the replace the ones that were the closest thing to a real French fresh baked croissant I've ever tasted outside of France. Good luck with this terrible choice, Joe! For now, they still have the almond and pain au chocolat versions, but I never used them as much, and miss the plain, dainty, nearly perfect version.
