Town and tongue

Went to Town last night and had an unbelievable meal. After getting over the initial sticker shock my husband wanted to know if i was sure it would be worth it. I assured him that the Hounds had given the place their collective seal of approval and he settled down.True to the reviews the bar is very good - a first rate and very generous kir royal and martini. Great big olives. The amuse was a mint flavored tomato soup with tiny peices of pineapple.I normally do not care for mint, but this very strange combination was quite appealing.Next we started with two unbelievably good app. An escargot risotto flavored with truffle oil and and intense lobster bisque. For entrees my husband had the steak over short ribs - excellent. But what I ordered and absolutely LOVED was the tongue. That's right tongue! It was tender, delicate and had an exquisite slightly smoky flavor - served with very small potatoes nestled into it (almost like a stuffing) and served with a saffron sauce, field greens and paper thin slices of radish. It was truly one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. If you like some of those unusual cuts that have been popping up all over - pork belly, beef cheeks etc.- you have to try this. I promise you will not be disappointed. Dessert was also superb. Great wine suggested by their very competent sommelier, friendly service, and beautiful surroundings completed a very enjoyable evening. I only wish I had the money to return next week. But go and order the tongue - it is part of their new seasonal menu.
